Elsie Star Birkeland Asimakoupoulos

 

This collection includes the most complete known set of NBI curriculum from the 1940s. Gift of Greg Asimakoupoulos.

Elsie Star Birkeland Asimakoupoulos was born on January 22, 1927 in Bremerton, WA to Gunder and Olga Birkeland. Her older brother Benny P. Birkeland is a NBI alumni, Assemblies of God pastor and served as director of alumni relations for Northwest College in the 1960s. Her older sister was Laura Ann Dickson who graduated from CBI and married an Assemblies of God pastor. Star graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1943. After attending Central Bible Institute in Springfiled, MO for one year, she transferred to Northwest Bible College and attended for three years. She graduated in 1947. She played alto sax in the orchestra and sang in the choir in addition to singing on a Gospel team. She was close friends with Paul Ness, son of Henry H. Ness. Star married Rev. Edwin Asimakoupoulos in 1951. Together they served Assemblies of God congregations in Moscow, Idaho, Hillsboro, Oregon and Marysville, Washington.
