The researcher in this study attempted to ask the following question: why one student improved in her language more quickly than another? He measured this by coding errors in students’ papers; this demonstrated differentiation in learning rate. He then observed and assessed the class, interviewed subjects, and drew conclusions from this information. The questions were primarily designed to assess the role of input in students’ lives. The researcher’s conclusion was that one student was more willing to make mistakes and diversified the things she did more than the other student. The research did, however acknowledge that the reasons why could be many different things, as much goes into learning a second language.en
